Metaventures are player-owned and operated businesses in the Upland metaverse. Metaventures are a big part of Upland's secondary market.
In Metaventures, players can acquire assets that might otherwise not be available to them. And as a player-run market, prices are up to Metaventure owners, creating opportunities to make a profit or strike a bargain.
As new types of Metaventures emerge, more asset types will be sold. As of today, Metaventure's inventory may include:
Block Explorers
Legits (FIFA World Cup, NFLPA, etc.)
Structure Ornaments
Map Assets
Any player can start a Metaventure as long as they meet the requirements. It's a fun way to get more involved in Upland while making UPX or even USD!
Metaventure Shops & Showrooms are easily identified in Upland. Just look for orange dots on the map.
Zooming into the property level reveals a pill button that players can click to access the Metaventure's information and inventory.
Metaventures also have floating air pins (3D icon) and building signage with the Metaventure's name above the structure. Each type of Metaventure has its own air pin;
Block Explorer Shops: Purple Chess pawn pin
NFLPA Fan Shops: Blue foam finger pin
Football Fan Shops: Red Scarf pin
Car Showrooms: Black Steering Wheel pin
Map Asset Showrooms: Grey Statue pin
Structure Ornament Showrooms: Multicolored Lights Pin
Metaventure owners can customize their shops with their branding. Two primary ways to do this are to add a store banner and a store background.
Customizable branding is an important feature for Metaventures and allows brands to differentiate themselves from the competition.
Players can also customize a shop description that appears in the lobby of their Metaventure. This can include HTML links to their website, blog, or social media.
Items can be purchased for either UPX or USD, and share the same pricing limits as properties. For example, there is currently a $10,000 cap on any USD sales.
Note: this cap may be removed in the future.
Metaventure owners have the freedom to manually set commission rates for other players who wish to list their items in their store. For example, the shop owner can collect between a 2% and 10% commission on sales of other players' NFTs in their shop. This will be configurable per Metaventure and per owner.
Select an asset to list it for sale.
Choose your offer type (UPX or USD), then set the offer price.
Metaventure owners will see other players requests to sell their items as a sub-merchant. The Metaventure owner may accept the request or work with the sub-merchant on pricing.
After reviewing sub-merchant requests, Metaventure owners may accept or reject the requests.
As with all other transactions in the Upland metaverse, each sale or purchase will be subject to a 5% marketplace transaction fee paid by the buyer. Because Metaventure owners are subject to Venture Dues (and sub-merchants are subject to commission fees), only the buyer pays the 5% fee vs. the standard 10% marketplace fee.
As a part of Upland's economy, which is modeled after real economics and commerce, Metaventure entrepreneurs pay dues based on the performance and volume of each Metaventure type in a specific locale. Owners will pay a % of the median contribution paid to the community pool by Metaventures of the same type, in the same locale.
The Ventures Dues model will adjust on the basis of each Metaventure-type; meaning different Metaventure-types will have a different fee structure that is determined based on the attributes of each locale and its inventory supply.
Venture Dues are incurred pro-rata dependent upon the time at which the Metaventure is opened. Meaning that players will only start incurring fees for the remainder of the month that they begin operations.
Metaventure owners receive an in-game notification when it's time to submit their Venture Dues. If a Metaventure owner doesn't pay their dues, their business may be closed down.
Players can browse each shop's inventory for items to purchase. Items can be listed either for UPX or USD.
Selecting any item will open the preview screen, allowing players to view the mint #, current owner, description, and blockchain ID.
Upland's metaverse features a diverse and growing economy powered by player-owned businesses. Currently operational Metaventures include or will include:
Shops: Metaventure Shops refer to locations (marked as orange dots on the map) where players sell a specific type of NFT or Upland asset. These items may have been purchased directly from the Upland Store, partner stores, won in an activity, or acquired from another player.
Think of Shops as specialty stores where you'll find specific items from a slice of Upland. You'll find various shops, including:
NFLPA Fan Shops: These Metaventures offer NFLPA Legits (see more below as an example)
Block Explorer Shops: These Metaventures only sell Block Explorers
Football Fan Shops: These Metaventures sell Football (aka soccer) Legits from our partner, FIFA
Variety Legit Shops: Offering a broader range of Legits that may not have dedicated marketplaces/shops
Factories: These Metaventures are involved in the manufacturing of 3D in-game items, such as Map Assets, Structure Ornaments, and Karts (see below)
Showrooms: These serve as a point of sale for manufactured goods, including Map Assets, Structure Ornaments, Karts, and Vehicles. In the first Showrooms, Metaventure owners will sell their own manufactured Map Assets items. All Uplanders can build a Showroom on their property should they wish and apply for a Showrooms Metaventure to sell their own creations (after going through a review process and manufacturing them). Showroom owners may also sell another player's assets if desired. With these structures, inventory capacity will be relative to the size of the Showroom. Keep in mind, a Showroom’s capacity can allow for a maximum amount of items to be on display for sale, but the available space on the property will also play a part in how many can fit. Unlike factories, there will be no dedicated space on the property required to place items. When space allows, items can be placed, meaning they’re for sale.Speedways: Allowing players to own and operate racetracks for car and kart racing events.
Nurseries: Involved in the sale and minting of seed Legits
Dev Shops: Metaventures created by members of the Upland Developer Network (UDN) to provide Layer 2 experiences.
Custom Branding Approval All user-submitted artwork must be approved by the NFLPA before production. This quality is unique to NFLPA Fan Shops, other Metaventures will only be subject to approval by the Upland team.
Inventory Supply Due to the greater total supply of Legits vs. other UNFTs (like Block Explorers), NFLPA Fan Shops will have increased capacity for items in their shops.
Fan Shop Beta Ventures Dues Venture dues start accruing beginning April 1st. Players will not have to pay any fees on the 1st but will be expected to pay Venture Dues the following month during the first week of May.
"Foam Finger" Air Pins NFLPA Fan Shops will be distinguished on the map by a blue, floating foam finger above each shop; similar to the floating pawn that appears above Block Explorer shops.

Similar to the real world, assets like structures or cars in Upland require time to build and produce. In Upland, cars production has been happening at the MV Motors Plant, for example. Player-owned Factories produce 3D items such as Map Assets and Structure Ornaments.
All Uplanders can build a Factory on their property as long as they meet the requirements. Uplanders will be able to use Factories to produce goods for their own Metaventure or for other Metaventures run by other Uplanders. Factory owners may also wish to leverage their existing Factories to trade with other Uplanders who are eager to start production immediately, rather than wait for a Factory to be built. The decision is yours.
Keep in mind that storage capacity is relative to the size of the property. A bigger location will allow for greater capacity of item storage. During production, when a property is full, Factories will not produce any more items until the existing inventory has been manually moved to other properties. When space allows, production will continue.
Step 1: Go to your property and open the build menu. Then “Small Factory I” (or another Factory size if desired).
Step 2: Position the Factory on your lot per usual. Make sure this is placed in a corner or away from the center of the property to allow for the maximum space to draw your inventory lot in the next step.
Step 3: Confirm positioning and placement of the Factory
Step 4: Position your Inventory Lot by dragging the green area to your desired location. Re-size and re-shape the Inventory Lot by using the four arrows. You can also use the icons on the right side of the screen to adjust the Inventory Lot lines.
Step 5: Confirm Inventory Lot position and sizing. When confirmed, you’ll see how much UP^2 there will be within your Inventory Lot. The Inventory Lot cannot be modified after confirmation. If the Factory is demolished and rebuilt, a new Inventory Lot can be drawn.
Step 6: After confirming the Inventory Lot size and location, stake Spark and start construction!
