Upland Dictionary
3D Avatars: 3D Avatars are full character models built inside Upland to be used in 3D experiences developed for Upland or connected third-party experiences. The character-creation tools is powered by the avatar platform Ready Player Me.
Alcatraz: Is a small island located in Upland North of San Francisco. It is designated as a site for players who violate Upland's rules, such as engaging in multi-accounting. These players are marked with a "J" to indicate their status as a player in “Jail.”
Blockchain Gaming: Games that use blockchain technology have an immutable, traceable data-storage network behind in-game transactions. This is crucial in ensuring players purchase and earn authentic digital items (e.g., fungible and non-fungible tokens). Upland is a metaverse built using EOS blockchain.
Block Explorer: A Block Explorer is the player character from the city or globe view inside Upland. Block Explorers wander cities randomly. Their paths cannot be directly controlled (unless you use a "Send"), and you will find that getting to the correct location will sometimes be part of the challenge!
Block Explorer Trail: Is a marker that shows the directional path from the last visited places of your Block Explorer. It is a grey track behind the Block Explorer.
Community Dev Tools: Community Dev Tools represent the APIs and tools for third-party developers and content creators to connect their IP to the Upland ecosystem. Third-party experiences brought to Upland are typically accessed through “Dev Shops” (seen as purple pips inside Upland).
Challenges: In-game events/activities players can participate in to win UPX and other rewards.
Collections: Collections are groups of Upland assets that, when combined, complete the “theme” of a Collection. Collections exist for Upland properties and Legits. Players put properties into Collections to boost the yield of those items. A property Collection increases UPX yield of those items (and usually provides a one-time UPX bonus). Yield for Legits typically applies to leaderboard and challenge scores for bonuses and unique challenge rewards.
Crypto Exchanges: These are (mainly centralized) marketplaces to buy, sell, and trade cryptocurrency and some crypto tokens. Examples include Crypto.com Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken. It is scoped for Upland assets to be available on third-party crypto exchanges.
Crypto Wallet: Wallets are secured software platforms that store a person’s crypto assets. A Wallet could be for a specific environment, such as an Upland Wallet. Or, a Wallet could be its own platform (e.g., MetaMask) that may connect to other applications.
Dev Shop: Dev Shops in Upland mark locations where players can access third-party content connected to the Upland ecosystem via Community Dev Tools. A Dev Shop is marked on the map as a purple pip. Typically, players must go to a Dev Shop and authorize a third party to access their Upland information before launching their content.
Discovery Range: Every Block Explorer has a “discovery range” representing the furthest point a Block Explorer can access from its position. Because Block Explorers are constantly moving on a map, the discovery range moves too. In order to interact with certain properties, the Block Explorer needs to be in discovery range.
EOS Blockchain: Upland operates on the EOS Blockchain using the EOS.io protocol. The EOS Blockchain is known for its fast, no-fee transactions and sustainability.
Existing Mints: The number of mints that remain on the blockchain for a specific NFT. This number changes when other mints are burned or merged.
FSA (Fair Start Act): FSA was implemented to reserve a percentage of properties for new players with a net worth below 100,000 UPX. The quantity of FSA property in a city is determined by a city’s tier.
Fiat Money: Describes a currency that is used as a medium of exchange and most often regulated by a government (e.g., the U.S. dollar). Upland has an NFT-to-USD program where players can sell items in Upland for fiat.
Genesis Week: Genesis Week marks the celebration of the first-ever minted property in Upland. There’s typically a celebration the first week of June for the occasion.
KYC (Know Your Customer): This is an identity verification process that helps keeps Upland safe and secure. Players can access KYC identity verification from their user Profile. Many features in Upland require KYC.
Landmarks: Landmarks in Upland are special locations that make each city unique. There’s a plan to have a unique structure for each Landmark, giving a distinct look and vibe to the property, city, and neighborhood … just like in real life.
Legits: These are collectibles unique to Upland that players permanently own. Legits can be for partner-based items (e.g., NFLPA, FIFA World Cup, etc.) or other projects. The family of Legits includes Essentials, Mementos, Spotlights, and more.
Legit Essentials: These are part of the Upland Legits family. These 3D digital assets are not limited by quantity but by time and/or seasons. For example, a set of NFLPA Essentials may only be available for a 2021 season. Essentials are more common digital assets that can be used to complete Legit Collections.
Legit Replicas: Replicas are digital assets that can be replicated by merging (or “burning”) Legit Essentials. Replicas of mementos are essentially copies of mementos and are generally less valuable than the original memento.
Metaventure: Metaventures are commercial ventures launched by players in the Upland metaverse. Supported by a robust economic model, they allow metaverse entrepreneurs to shape a new economy. Some types of Metaventures include:
Shops: Where players can buy legits and mementos. Examples: Football Fan Shops and NFLPA Fan Shops.
Factories: Where players fabricate items such as Outdoor Decor and Structure Ornaments
Showrooms: Where players sell fabricated items from Factories
Mementos: Mementos are rare, unique Legits (always 1-of-1) that typically commemorate real-world events. These digital assets are typically integrated with unique data from an event (such as an athlete’s stats from a match). Mementos are rarer than Legit Essentials, thus they are more valuable. Also, Mementos are great items for Collections.
Mint/Mint Number: The sequential number assigned when an NFT is minted. This number will not change when other mints are burned or merged. (Ex. “1 of 1”)
Minting: An event that certifies a digital asset on the blockchain to turn it into a non-fungible token (NFT). In Upland, players mint Block Explorers, properties, Legits, cars, Structure Ornaments, Outdoor Decor, and other items.
MV Motors: MV Motors is Upland's native car brand. There are various models, including the Series 1, Series 2, Series 4, Series T, Series V, Series S, etc. Many models also have different “trims,” which may alter the appearance and performance of the vehicle.
NFT (Non-Fungible-Token): An NFT is a digital asset that is unique and singular, backed by blockchain technology to ensure authenticity and ownership. An NFT can be bought, sold, traded, or collected. Virtually anything can be an NFT, such as properties, avatars, Legits, and much more!
Node: These are neighborhood communities in Upland. Node boundaries are based on neighborhoods in real cities. You can use the community directory to find a node (or start your own node anywhere in Upland). There is no formal process for creating a node. All it takes is a few people working together who are willing to be a part of a neighborhood.
Outdoor Decor: These are decorative items (e.g., Statues, Tiles, Gnomes, Canvasses) that can be placed on a property that players own. Outdoor Decor are mainly cosmetic items used for personalizing properties. Some are won from contests and serve as rare, valuable trophies.
Racing: Players can use their cars to race each other (or bots) in Upland races. There is an app, the Upland Racing app, that is needed to join races. Players may also spectate races if desired.
Riot Mode: Riot Mode creates additional incentives for players to participate in Treasure Hunts by augmenting their rewards when many players are actively hunting.
Swaps: This is an item-to-item trade between two players.
Sends: Sends are a resource used to move your Block Explorer to a specific destination. As your Block Explorer roams randomly, you do not need to be in discovery range to use a send, but the property must be minted. Players do have a limited number of Sends, but can collect Sends by going to the paper airplanes scattered on the map.
Spark: Spark is the currency that powers the development of 3D objects that manifest on the map. This includes Structures, Structure Ornaments, and Outdoor Decor. Spark can be earned by leveling up your Upland status, winning in-game challenges, and participating in certain Treasure Hunts. Spark is also available for purchase in the Upland Store during Spark Week.
Spotlight Mementos: Spotlights are rare Upland collectibles that are video-based media. These are highly rare and unique collectibles.
Structure Ornaments: Structure Ornaments are essentially skins for Upland Structures (residential houses or buildings) that bring unique customization to a property. Structure Ornaments are mostly used in specific periods, such as a holiday or season. However, Structure Ornaments remain in a player’s wallet and can be used in its applicable season or occasion.
Terminals: Terminals are travel hubs. There are train stations as well as domestic and international airports. Terminals are special properties owned by players and allow people to travel between cities. Terminals are marked on the map with special icons (e.g., trains, buses, and airplanes).
Tilia Pay: Is a product of Tilia, Inc. and is used in Upland to sell NFTs for fiat money.
Total Mints: The total amount of each Legit that has been minted on the blockchain.
Treasure Hunts: A treasure hunt is a minigame that invites players to search for hidden treasure. In a hunt, players follow arrow markers that lead them in the direction of a reward.
Treasure Tier: Treasure tiers are assigned based on the makeup of each city and correspond with the min, max, and default send fees of each city. Treasure Tier rewards are adjusted to compensate for changes in send fees. Some cities with a higher treasure tier may offer more substantial rewards. There is also a “Sparked Up” Treasure Tier during Spark week which may drop a Spark reward in treasure chests.
Treasure Rush: Treasure Rush is a Standard Hunting mode where Uplanders are challenged to spawn and collect as many treasures as possible in the 30 minute period; no sends will be consumed while hunting. The more Treasures you find, the higher you will place on each City’s leaderboard.
UPX (pronounced UP-IX): UPX is Upland’s fungible token. It's used to acquire in-game purchases of goods and services. UPX offers players the freedom to buy, sell and trade properties using a peer-to-peer trustless method of exchange. UPX is not currently tradable outside of the game and is implemented as a utility token, derived from the EOS.io token system contract.
Unminted Property: In Upland, all properties that have not yet been bought by anyone are called unminted properties.
Upland Status: A player’s Upland Status represents the level the player has reached. Many statuses include bonuses. Here are the Statuses in order:

Upland Voting: There is a voting mechanic in Upland so that players can contribute to all sorts of decisions in the ecosystem. The voting tool is found on the Profile page. Voting requires KYC identity verification and an Upland Home Address.
UPX Yield: Yield in Upland represents the amount of passive UPX a player earns from their properties. For example, players earn a small amount of UPX for each property in their portfolio. These Property Earnings may be increased by completing Collections. Properties are the only yield bearing asset.
Vanilla Mode: Vanilla Mode refers to a method in which Upland cities may launch. Collection details for cities that are released in Vanilla Mode are minted to the blockchain prior to the release to ensure provable fairness for all players. In other words, there are no Collections at launch for cities released in Vanilla mode. This means that players can speculate on what properties might be included in collections prior to their official reveal.
Visa: A visa in Upland is a pass Visitors have that gives them access to Upland. With an active visa, Visitors may explore Upland and acquire assets in pursuit of leveling up to an Uplander. Once reaching Uplander status, players trade in their visa for permanent residency!
